Many people spend their lives controlled by the mercy of circumstances. People will live at the mercy of their own self-image and mercy of other people. They become stuck in the prison of their past and neglect the clarity of the present. This neglect causes people to project the illusion unto themselves that they are not good enough to pursue their own dreams. They are afraid of their true potential that is an arm’s length away if they just change one characteristic, habit, or behavior about themselves. If you want a happier and more complete life, then you must stop entertaining the following five things you need to quit right now.

Trying to please everyone

The need to fit in and feel wanted by other people will lead you down a path that will demoralize and destroy you. You were born the way you are for a reason. You are one of a kind. There is not one person on this big green and blue marble of a world that is the same as you.

People pleasing is a fucked system that will only lead you to a road of self-doubt and limitation.

You were born with the potential to outshine the dull background of your peers. Do not dull your light to fit in with the darkness of social acceptance. You must make it an objective to surround yourself with others who shine just as bright as you.

The group of people you surround yourself with reveals the depth of your personality. If you try to please and surround yourself with everyone, then you are spreading yourself a mile wide but only an inch deep.

Living in the past

Stop living in the past. Let that shit go. If you allow your past to control your present or future life then you are ultimately fucking up yourself over. If you want to be free, then you have to free yourself from the shackles of your past.

“But Austin, I cannot forgive the all the people who did me wrong.”

Fuck them. You will never let a stranger live in your home rent-free. Why would you allow the past to infest your present self if it does not contribute to your current situation? Right now, in this present moment, it is just you and me. At this very moment, they have no control over the quality of your life. If you allow the burden of your past to weigh you down, you are infecting the purest experiences that are dwelling in the present.

Let’s put it this way. If you about to die and you are not talking about something in the last moments of your life, then do not make it a top priority in the present moment.

Once you let go of the darkness of your past, you will take the first steps into the light of enjoyment.

Putting yourself down

You are your most critical critic. If you associate a negative connotation with every flaw that you have, then you will fail at everything that you attempt.

Instead of being your worst critic, you should be your greatest fucking fan. You have to recognize your own limited beliefs. Once you begin to hear the words of that little voice in your subconscious telling you that you are nothing, you tell that motherfucker to shut up.

Your entire life will change once you change your mindset about yourself. There is nothing that you cannot have and there is nothing that you cannot accomplish if your values align with your mindset. The instant you decide to see every aspect of your life as a blessing instead of a curse, you are taking responsibility of your existence on Earth.

Fearing change

If you want to be the person you have always fantasized about, then you have to change your current self. You cannot be afraid of that person. You have your own story to tell. However, to tell that story, you have to live that story.

You can’t be lazy. If you are not satisfied with your current situation then change it. You cannot passively wait for a defining moment because it will not come. You have to get the fuck up and take it.

If that means change your sleep schedule to study more to get your degree then do it. If that mean you have take on an extra job to fund your own business then do it.

You are your own defining moment. The world might tell you that it is not your time. Don’t even bother asking or telling the world you are ready. You have to show it. You have to do it.

If you fail, try again. If you fail again, try again and again and again, until you change yourself to live the life you have dreamed of.

People define money as the most apparent factor in a majority of their problems. It is not how your money is made, it is how you make your money. If you chase the money, you will inevitably become more and more insecure about the person you have become.

Now, money and success go hand in hand. However, the most valuable currency received from success is a purpose. A purpose to support others and to change lives. Once you actually believe in the value that you are providing, then your career and overall quality of life will begin to click.

There is nothing wrong with abundance. Everyone wants to be a millionaire, but very few want to incorporate in their lives the habits and qualities it takes to achieve such a high status of income. The most successful people in the world are where they are because they do what they love. They do not submit to the average joe lifestyle of working a 9 to 5 with a company they do not support and surrounded by people they hate to have a decent income.

The richest people in the world deviate from the average lifestyle because they separated themselves from that very environment. If you want to make a difference in this world, then you have to chase your dream rather than the money.
